Her maiden name was Ann McPhee. She came with her husband, the late Donald Cameron, senior, to Sydney in the early part of 1839, and two years afterwards came to the Queanbeyan district. In 1853 her husband died. A few months previously she met with an accident, resulting in loss of sight of one eye, the sight of the other having been partially lost some years before. In 1854 she came to The Glebe, Gininderra, with the unmarried portion of her family. Mrs. Cameron was the mother of thirteen children – eight sons and five daughters – of whom six sons and one daughter survived. During her lifetime she experienced severe domestic troubles, which she bore with resignation. Of a kind and peaceful disposition, she was most unselfish, and to the day of her death was ever thinking of others. She had been heard to state that she had never had a misunderstanding with a neighbour during her lifetime. With the exception of the constant affliction of the loss of sight, she had a short and apparently not dangerous illness. She retained the use of her mental faculties till within a few months of her death, and conversed intelligently. Her end was like her life, for she passed peacefully away without a struggle or cry. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and also welcomed her minister when he came to visit the home, and dispense the Bread of Life. On Thursday, May 17th, she died, and on Saturday she was buried, at her own request, in the Glebe Churchyard, beside her granddaughter, who died a few months before her. The Rev. H.A. Steel, MA., held a short service in the house, and the Rev. Canon Smith read the burial service at the grave. A large company gathered to testify their respect for the deceased, and their sympathy with the living. – "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord."
