Personal Notes:
Percy John Christian Willis. Percy was born on the 2 October 1900 in St Peters. He attempted to join the Army at age 15 years 2 months, when he claimed he was 18 years 10 months. Anyway after he passed the medical and had 2 fillings they somehow discovered his real age. He was discharged after less than 3 weeks. When he joined he was described as 5'8", 61kg, medium complexion, brown eyes with brown hair.

He joined the Navy on the 5 July 1920 and served on ships such as Cerburus, Penguin, Melbourne, Platypus, Australia, Canberra and Sydney. He started off a Plumber 5th class and got up to the rank of Plumber 1st Class (Service Number 12524). After serving for more than 20 years he was on the HMAS Sydney on the 19 November 1941. This ship was attacked by the Kormoran, which had been disguised as Dutch ship. Both ships sunk but the HMAS Sydney was lost with all 645 hands. Both ships were only found again in March 2008.

He married Amy Annie Hardie in 1919 in Petersham, Sydney.
