When Sidney was hospitalised with typhoid his mother also became ill and was taken to Charters Towers Hospital, where she died. On Sidney's arrival home he found the house cleaned and his mothers possessions gone. This is how he found out his mother had died.
Sidney was basically on his own from then however Fred and some of the older brothers looked out for him. Sidney went to the Winton Hospital when his father became ill and was holding his hand when he passed away. It is quiet ironic that a similar event took place some 80 years later when Sidney was admitted to the Charters Towers Hospital and Kevin, his son, was holding his hand when he passed away. |
