Death of Mrs. C. W. Weeden.
Quite a gloom was cast over our town on Wednesday last, when the sad news became known at midday of the lamentable death of Mrs. Weeden, wife of our respected townsman,Mr.C. W.Weeden. On the previous Sunday, she gave birth to an infant boy ( Charles Henry) and on account of her having been a sufferer for some time past from a weak heart, she almost collapsed at the time. There was no time to give the doctor warning, as within a couple of minutes of serious tokens manifesting themselves the end came. Intense sympathy is felt towards the sorrowing husband, who was most deeply attached to his wife, the two being considered amongst the happiest of couples in our district, and they owned one of the most comfortable homes in the town. He is left with the responsibility of three little children to care for, the eldest a boy aged 5 years, a little girl 18 month's old, and the infant, who is a remarkably healthy looking child; three children had pre-deceased their mother. Deceased was 40 years of age, and was the daughter of Mr. William Davis, owner of an extensive iron foundry at Wollongong. She had been married 11 years. She was highly esteemed by all acquaintances, a devoted wife and mother, a faithful follower and worker of the Methodist Church, and a most agreeable and affable companion. The store of L. Mandelson & Co., in which the husband of deceased has charge of the ironmongery department, was closed on the following day, and a notable mark of sympathy over the sad bereavement was shown at Mr. Grill's store, and also at Messrs. Chapman & Co's., where the two main windows in each store were profusely draped with black, in tokens of sorrow, which appealed to the minds of the grief stricken widower and others sharing in the distress. The funeral took place yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, and was numerously attended. Rev. Roger (Methodist), of Adelong, read the burial service and delivered an impressive and pathetic address at the grave-side. The undertaker's duties were carried out by Mr. H. W. Hoad. Numerous wreaths were placed on the coffin by sympathetic friends of the deceased and Mr. Weeden received numerous letters and telegrams of condolence.
