“Obituary
MR. R. PROWSE
Mr. Richard Prowse, who died suddenly early this month at his home, “Truro," Nacka Nacka, at the age of 74 years, was a native of Adelong and was one of its best-known identities. All his life his work and interests were connected with the Adelong district, and his death is mourned by a legion of people who were privileged to call him friend. His generosity and unfailing good nature were always at the service of his friends and his charitable actions were extensive. At the conclusion of his early schooldays Mr. Prowse turned his attention to rural pursuits to such good purpose that his property, "Truro," became one of the show places of the Adelong district.
Mr. Prowse married Miss Frances Purcell, daughter of Mr. Charles Purcell, of Wondalga, and thus two of
the district's oldest families were linked. He was an astute judge of cattle and sheep and put his knowledge into good effect. His Interest in the Adelolg district, and particularly in his own locality of Nacka Nacka, was shown by the number of official positions he occupied and their diversity. He was a president of the Pastoral and Agricultural Association, president of the Adelong Jockey Club, trustee of the racecourse, member of the Gundagai Pastures Protection Board, a Tumut Shire councillor, vice-
president of the Tumut and Adelong District Graziers' Association, vice-president of the Voluntary Bush Fire Brigade, and president of the Mt. Pleasant and Nacka Nacka cricket and tennis clubs, with all his outsidp activities Ms first and paramount interest was his home, wife and family.
He is survived by his wife, seven daughters, Misses Alice, Cecilia, and Mildred Prowse of "Truro," Adelong, Mrs. H. E. Bayliss and Mrs. E. Nlsbet, of Hay; Mrs. R. B. Hunter, Holbrook; Mrs. N. Haynes, Wagga; and two sons, Charles, "Truro,'' and Robert, Cootamundra. There are also
three grandchildren. Twelve brothers and sisters also survive him. They are:
J. I. Prowse, Mrs. John Purcell W.G. Prowse, Wagga, J. H. Prowse, M.H.R., Albert, Benjamin. Mrs. F. Carter. Mrs. B. Moore, all of Western Australia, Joseph, Mrs. Burgess, Mrs. Bailey and Miss Tilly Prowse, of Sydney. Another brother, Robert, predeceased him. The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. R. Prowse would have been celebrated on April 20.”
