Obituary (The Argus (Melbourne, Vic.), Wed, 6 Jul 1921, Page 9): DEATH OF MR. R. MURCHISON. Deep regret has been caused by the death of Mr Roderick Murchison a well-known Melbourne banker and one of the trustees of the Edward Wilson Estate, which occurred early yesterday morning. Mr Murchison who was the son of a Gundagai pastoralist, was born at Goulburn, New South Wales, on July 5, 1848. Entering the service of the Bank of New South Wales when he was not 17 years of age Mr. Murchison had a distinguished banking career. During a financial crisis in South Australia in 1885, Mr Murchison was appointed acting manager of the Adelaide branch and his tactful and masterful handling of the difficulties he had to face paved the way for a pronounced advancement it in the service of the bank. Mr Murchison afterwards accepted the position of manager in Melbourne, and for more than 20 years he was in charge of the Melbourne blanch. His influence spread much farther, and in 1898 he was given the title of chief officer in Victoria, a position second only to that, of general manager. In October 1907, Mr Murchison was granted 12 months leave of absence, and at the expiration he retired but was appointed Melbourne director of the bank. Mr. Murchison was a trustee of the Edward Wilson Estate, and like his colleagues, he gave close attention to the needs, of Victorian charities. The announcement of Mr. Murchison's death appeared in all but the the early editions of "The Argus" yesterday. The funeral will leave Sleigh's funeral chapel, Flinders street, at 11 o'clock this morning for the Boroondara cemetery.
