DEATH OF MR. S. HAIN. COOMA, Friday.—Mr. Samuel Hain, aged 66 years, died early this morning from dropsy. He arrived in the colony 50 years ago, and started farming at Goulburn. He then came to Cooma, where he carried on business as a storekeeper for about 30 years. He was a large property owner in the town and the district surrounding Cooma. He leaves a wife and four sons, and four daughters, besides numerous other, relatives and conections. GoulburnHerald 21 May 1900 Obituary. Mn. SAMUEL HAIN of Cooma died early on Friday morning. Deceased, who was about seventy years of age, had been ill for a long time. The late Mr. Hain, was one of Monaro's best known residents. He was a native of Somerset, and, with his father, followed agricultural pursuits in Goulburn, afterwards residing at Rock Flat, near Cooma, where he carried on farming. By his will the late Samuel Hain of Cooma, storekeeper, who died on May 18, 1899, appointed as his trustees and executors his sons Thomas Hain and Albert Hain, and his nephew Edgar Samuel Hawson; and after devising certain properties specially to his four sons and four daughters, he directs that the interest and accumulated bonuses on his life policy of £500 with the A.M.P. Society, also the rents from properties situated at Cooma, Nimitybelle, and other places, and also interest on mortgages, be paid to his widow, Margaret Hain, during her lifetime; and upon her death the trustees are directed to sell the estate and divide the proceeds equally among his children. The value of the estate for purposes of probate was sworn at £58,792 3/3. |
