ARTHUR ALCOCK JP
Hilltop, Tantawanglo, was born in Webheath, Worcestershire England in 1834 and educated at Reditch, Birmingham. When eighteen years of age he arrived in Adelaide, but staying there only seven months, he come on to Sydney and proceeded at once to Duelondondue to manage a station for his uncle, Mr. John Green. Five years later he purchased from PS Clifford the present Greenlands Station, near Nimitybelle, comprising about 16000 acres. Coming to Candelo in 1862 he selected about 1500 acres in Tantawanglo, which he has since increased by purchase and selection to 5000 acres. Mr. Alcock owns the Springfield property near Bobundarah, for which and the stock he paid fourteen thousand pounds. He is at present following the combined industries of dairying agricultural farming and pastoral pursuits, in which he is assisted by his family. He is a very great advocate of thoroughbred horses, cattle and sheep. His horses have been very successful on the turn, and his stud sheep are great prize winners, while his cattle are much valued for beef and dairy purposes. Mr Alcock was elevated to the commission of the peace in 1882.
