The Tumut and Adelong Times 13 Apr 1926
Obituary. MRS. GEORGE LAST. Universal regret was expressed last Tuesday morning when news was flashed from Sydney that Mrs. Last, wife of Mr. George Last, of Tumblong, had passed away. She was a strong, healthy woman. Mrs. Last first complained about six months ago of feeling ill. She consulted Dr. Byrne, and was under his care in Gundagai Hospital for about three weeks. Then she went to Sydney and entered Lewisham Hospital, where she was treated for five weeks. Her heart was in a bad state, which precluded an operation being performed. Dr. Kurtitt and two leading specialists had her case in hand. Deceased was a member of that fine family of Pierses, of Darbalara, and was held in high esteem. Besides her sorrowing husband, one son, Eddie, survives. Sisters of deceased are : Mrs. Battye (Gundagai), Mrs. Morris (Wagga), Mrs. Eugene Carberry (Junee), Mrs. Jno. Reardon (Gundagai), and Mrs. W. Sullivan (Gundagai) ; brothers : John, David, Michael and Robert (Darbalara, Gundagai) . The mortal remains were taken to Gundagai by Wednesday's train, the interment taking place in the after noon in the R.C. portion of the North Gundagai cemetery. The cortege was a lengthy one, and was made up of about 40 motor cars. Members of the Gundagai Hibernian Society marched in procession. The pall-bearers were Messrs. H. P. Carberry, H. Kenny, W. Barton and L. Ryan. At the graveside were Mrs. Winward, Mrs. G. Clout, of Brungle, and Mrs. Dargan (Binalong), sisters of Mr. Last. The Rev. Fr. Lehane read the last prayers. |
