The Tumut and Adelong Times 27 Apr 1926
MR. T. J. S. NICHOLLS Awfully sudden was the death of Mr. T. J. S. ("Tom") Nicholls, of Willie Ploma, South Gundagai, about tea time on Tuesday. He had been unwell for a few days, and was under medical treatment, but his family never thought of serious results. He took a bad turn about 5.45 p.m. on Tuesday, and died in a very short while. A native of the place, "Tom" Nicholls was a well-known figure in Gundagai. During the war period he was one of those who helped everywhere — he gave sheep, cattle, horses and money to various patriotic move ments. He owned one of the best holdings in the State, his Willie Ploma property being a very choice bit of land. For years he advocated the erection of country meat chilling works at Gundagai, and often was wont to remark, "Gundagai will yet be the Chicago of Australia." Deceased was a son of the late Mr. James Nicholls, and was 53 years of age. He leaves a wife and one daughter, one sister (Mrs. Truelove, Illabo), and four brothers — Messrs. William (Forbes), Samuel (Five-Mile), John (Bongongolong), and Jabez (Willie Ploma). |
