The Tumut and Adelong Times 23 Jul 1929
DEATH OF MR. Wm. M. ROBINSON A great shock was given to Mrs. Robinson on Friday morning, when her husband, Mr. William Miller Robinson, of Russell-street, Tumut, was found dead in his bed by Miss Hardaker, who, not receiving any response to her call that it was time he was up and about as was his wont early, found that he was lifeless. For some considerable time he had been suffering from nerve trouble, but apart from that malady he was jovial and did not complain. On the previous night he had gone from his home, carrying his grandson, to the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. N. Learmont, and there remained in spirited converse with Mr. and Mrs. Learmont till just on 9 o'clock, went home, and afterwards bade his wife good-night and went to bed. In the morning he lay as if in his sleep, the bedclothes being undisturbed, suggesting that he had died peacefully reposing. Deceased, who was aged 68 years, was one of the old residents of Tumut, for over 40 years. For many years, until his health necessitated his retirement from his avocation, he was an overseer in the employ of the Irrigation Trust at Leeton, and it was with the regret of his superior officers that he was obliged to leave the service, being thorough and conscientious in all that he did, and esteemed by those under him. He had reached within two years of the allotted span of "three score years and ten.'' A sorrowing widow, one daughter, Florence (Mrs. T. N. Learmont), and one son (Hussey William, of Temora) mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. The only other relative in Australia is a sister, Mrs. Blake, of Victoria, whose address is unknown to deceased's wife and family. The remains were laid to rest in the Presbyterian portion of the Old Cemetery, Rev. J. Walton attending to the obsequies, and Messrs Fuller and Burt being the funeral directors. The bearers were Messrs S. H. Nicholls, John McKinnon, Waller Hayward, W. W. Learmont, Doug. Fuller and E. Hardaker. Very deep regret is felt for the lamenting ones in their sad and sudden bereavement. |
