- Notes: William Patrick Burke [sic] was born in Ireland and leaving there went to the Alaska goldfields. There he married Catherine Dempsey and they conducted a storekeeping business. From Alaska they went to the Victorian goldfields where a son, Frank Burke, was born in Castlemaine.

Soon after arriving in Tumut in 1860 he took his wife and son to the Kiandra Diggings where he set up in the Hotel business and also ran a store and a butcher's shop. He did not stay long, selling out at a good price before the boom was over.

He then came to Blowering where he purchased a farm from J.C. Whitty who then owned Blowering Station. He paid 30/- an acre for the property. It was resumed in 1965 for £150 an acre. His original purchase was 364 acres and to this he added another 1,653 acres.

During the Second World War the farm, which has been in the Burke family for 105 years (in 1967), was producing 800 tons of cabbages a year on contract for the Armed Forces. It had also been farmed for maize and tobacco and at one time there were 27 Chinese tobacco growers working the farm. William Patrick Burke died in 1898. His children were;

> Frank Burke who lived on the property all his life. His children were;
> Frank Burke Jnr.,
> Kathleen Burke (married a Mr. Dunn),
> Mary Burke who died inl942,
> John Burke,
> William Burke,
