OBITUARY MRS. C. ARMOUR One of the best knowen women in the Gundagai district, Mrs. Caroline Armour, passed away suddenly at her residence in Punch St. Gundagai, on Thursday morning. The late Mrs. Armour complained of feeling unwell shortly after she had risen from bed on Thursday morning, and very soon afterwards she collapsed and died. Since the sudden death of her son, the late Alex. Armour. Mrs. Armour had never really recovered from the shock she sustained at the time. On Wednesday she appeared to be in better health than usual, for she attended to her garden, which is one of the most attractive in Gundagai ; and she herself said that she had not felt so well for a long time. At Cambridge, England, in the year 1853, deceased was born; and when only two years of age she came out with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Oak, to Australia. The Oak family were amongst the earliest pioneers of the Gundagai district. Until twelve years ago, when her husband passed away, deceased resided at Bongongolong; but with the passing of her life partner she moved to Gundagai, where she lived ever since. When her son's wife died deceased took his children, who were then only babies, and reared them. Misses Margaret and Anne Armour were living with their grandmother at the time of her demise. Members of the Armour family are Mrs. Grubb, Gundagai; Mrs. J. A. Nicholls, Bongongolong; Mrs. S. Nicholls, Forbes; and Miss Florence, Gundagai. Two sons predeceased their mother. Mr. Alex Armour died last year, and Mr. Charles Armour was killed in action in May, 1917. A daughter, Mrs. E. Mathus, died some years back. The funeral took place on Friday, the remains being interred in the North Gundagai C. of E. Cemetery. |
