Death of Jindabyne Residents MRS. CAROLINE STEWART The death occurred from heart trouble on 27th July of Mrs Caroline Stewart of Ventnor, Moonbah, at the advanced age of 85 years, her last birthday being on Christmas Day. The deceased lady was the fourth of the family of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brown of Wingello and was born at Bargo four years before the family moved to Wingello. Mr. Brown was well-known in that district in the early days, where he erected the Wingello hotel ; his burial taking place in the cemetery there, where the headstone is still to be seen. The late Mrs. Stewart went to Jimenbuan where she resided with her aunt, Mrs. Amos Crisp, shortly afterwards being married to Mr. Joseph John Connors who pre-deceased her 56 years since. The family of the marriage were Mrs. Crawford of Bombala Street, Cooma, William of Moonbah, and Edward of Ventnor. Later she married Mr. Robert Stewart, who died nine years ago ; her family surviving being Mrs. William Filtness of Ventnor and Mrs. A. H. Ginus of Wilde's Meadows, Moss Vale. She leaves 16 grand children and 9 great grandchildren. The deceased was one of the old pioneers, coming to the Gullies cattle station when she married. There were then very few settlers in the vicinity and the aboriginals were very numerous. She was highly respected throughout the district and was an active member of the Church of England. The funeral, which was largely attended took place on 29th at Boloko cemetery, the Rev. E. M. Cutcliffe conducting the service. The pall beaters were Messrs. Edward and Thomas Crawford, Donald Mc- Gufficke, and Frederick Filtness. Wreaths were from Siddie and Will, Linda Arthur and Reg, Alma Roy Kit and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Mackandar, Will Emily and family, Lid and Dorrie and great grandchildren Jean and Betty, daughter Amelia, grandchildren Tom Carry and Ruby Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. M. Power and family. |
