Captain Charles Purcell was the son of William Purcell who was a carpenter on the Bounty under Captain Bligh.
Captain Charles Purcell arrived in Australia in 1841 with his wife, Jane Turpin Reynolds (born August 1813 and died 15 January 1882). After they moved around NSW (with their children being born in various places), they came to Tumut, then Adelong & Reedy Flat until they selected land at Adelong Grove in 1866. Charles Purcell died in November 1891 and both he and his wife were buried in the Adelong cemetery. Their children were; >Jane Maria Purcell (born 25 May 1841 and died 28 Aug 1921), >Harriet T. Purcell (born 23 Apr 1843 and died 22 Apr 1914), >Charles Purcell and) (born 23 Dec 1845 and died 26 Aug 1915), >Maria Anne Purcell (born 24 May 1850 and died 10 Jun 1917), >Annie Purcell (born 1855 and died 5 Jul 1926) >Jemima Purcell (born 1 Feb 1857 died 6 Feb 1857). |
