Personal Notes:
The Tumut and Adelong Times 23 May 1950
OBITUARY CHARLES MOREY The death has occurred suddenly of a well-known Tumbarumba re sident, Mr. Charles Morey. The day previous to his death the late Mr. Morey had appeared to be in his usual health, but when returning to work at Mannus in a car he com plained of feeling unwell and was later that afternoon admitted hospital. He passed away within twenty-four hours of his admission to the institution. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Morey, deceased was born at Granya (Vic.) in September. 1881. Both his parents hailed from England, his mother coming to Australia when a child of 13. Mr. Morey died in 1914 and Mrs. Morey in 1931. When in his 20's the late Charles Morey came to Mannus, where he took up farming on land near the present Brokfield Afforestation Camp. In 1909 he was married at Wolseley Park to Ann McEachern, who died two years later. In 1914 the late Charles Morey was married to Charlotte Amelia Melbourne, who survives him together with three sons and four daughters. The surviving sons are Arthur (Albury) and Alan and Neville (Tumbarumba); daughters are Hazel (Mrs. W. Hulm, Laurel Hill), Dulcie (Mrs. W. Portors, Tumbarumba), and Lorna Morey, of Tumbarumba. Three sons predeceased their father: Ron, who died in 1936; Claude, who was killed in action at Salamaua: (N.G.) in August 1943, while serving with the 58/59th Infantry: Battalion; and Kevin, who paid the supreme sacrifice at Aitape (N.G.) in June, 1945, when serving with the 2/3rd Machine Gun Battalion. Deceased is survived by one brother, Mr. William: Morey, of Mannus; and six sisters, Mrs; B. H. Peard (Mannus), Mrs. F. Hawkins (Melbourne), Mrs. C. H. Weule (Lavington), Mrs. ; C. Fuller : (Mannus), Mrs. J. Johns (Wyong) and Mrs. C. Bailey (Yarramalong). The funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the Tumbarumba cemetery after service conducted at St. Jude's Church by the Rev. G. K. Armstrong, of Adelong. The cortege was very long, a large number of friends of deceased paying their last respects to one who was held in very high esteem. Mr. H. O. Lyons had charge of the funeral arrangements.

This public tree has about 60,100 people. Every person in the tree is related by birth or marriage to at least one other person in the tree - no strays. The people in the tree come mainly from four projects.
  1. My family tree. The original project begun about 1998. ID numbers less than about 6,000
  2. Canberra and Queanbeyan Pioneers. The next 30,000 begun about 2004. Sourced almost entirely from HAGSOC's excellent 'Biographical Register of Canberra and Queanbeyan'. The project began when I decided to add siblings, spouses and parents for a relation with an entry in the Register. 12 years work.
  3. Wagga Pioneers. I moved to Wagga and thought I would extend the Queanbeyan project by adding people from Wagga Wagga & District Family History Society's 'Pioneers of Wagga Wagga and District'. About 10,300 people added over about a year.
  4. Tumut Valley Pioneers. During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, I decided to extend the above projects by adding pioneers of the Tumut Valley. Initial sources were Snowden's 'Pioneers of the Tumut Valley' and 'Relict of ... Lives of Pioneering Women of Tumut and District'. Excellent references published by Tumut Family History Group. I've also added material from newspapers of the time - especially, death records, obituaries and weddings from 'Tumut and Adelong Times'. This project is in its early stage and might take a few years. I plan to extend to the upper Monaro (Adaminaby, Kiandra, Cooma, Jindabyne).
I upload new information to this website about every 3 months. My motivation for these projects is to provide public information for people seeking to trace ancestors and what became of them. Much of the information I provide can be difficult to find.
If you find errors - anything incorrect (dates, places, wrong parents, wrong children), and you have evidence, I would love to fix them. Or, if you have information that would extend my projects, do not hestiate to contact me on the email link below. I do not publish information on living people - which means I'm not much interested in people born after about 1920, and I usually distrust material from before about 1770 without extremely good sources.
