OBITUARY
MRS CHARLOTTE BLOMLEY
Death removed one of the most widely known and best loved residents of Tumbarumba on Monday morning of last week, when Mrs. Charlotte Blomley, proprietress of the Union Hotel, passed to her long rest. Relict of the late George Oswald Blomley, deceased, had been confined to her bed for about three weeks prior to her demise, and although her passing was not altogether unexpected the circulation of the news that she had answered the last call was received with deep and genuine regret by all sections of the community. The late Mrs. Blomley (formerly Miss Charlotte Gill) was born 72 years ago at Mullengandra, near Holbrook, where her parents were on the land. Practically the whole of her life was spent in Holbrook, Tumbarumba and districts adjacent to the Upper Murray. Married to the late Mr. Blomley at St. Luke's Church, Junee, almost 50 years ago, the young couple went to Tooma, where Mr. Blomley followed farming pursuits for some time. A true pioneer, Mrs. Blomley shared with her husband the hardships and struggles of those far-off days and nobly played her part in carving from the virgin bush a home for themselves and their family. Over 45 years ago Mr. Blomley acquired the ownership of the Union Hotel, Tumbarumba, which ever since, with the exception of seven years (1922 to 1929, wnen it was leased), has remained in the control of the family. The late Mrs. Blomley is survived by her daughter, Mrs. W. F. Heinecke (Doris), who lavished on her mother every care and attention during her last illness. The sudden death of her husband a little more than two years ago was a great blow to her, and one from which she never really recovered. There were also two sons of the marriage, both of whom prededeceased their parents. One, Thomas, was a member of the famous Camel Corps of the 1914-18 war, and made the supreme sacrifice in Palestine in 1917. The elder son, Ivo, who also performed war work in England, died nine years ago. He was one of the leading golfers in Riverina. Four grandchildren (two sons and two daughters of the late Mr. Ivo Blomley) also survive. Other surviving relattives are two sisters, Mesdames K. Kendall (Henty) and J. Daly (Lake Albert) two step-brothers, Messrs. W. Cheshire (Melbourne) and V. Cheshire (Cootamundra). The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, the long cortege moving from St. Jude's Church after a short service conducted by the Rev. K. J. Clements, for the Tumbarumba cemetery, where the interment took place in the Anglican portion. The large and representative gathering at the graveside was a fine testimony to the univeral affection and esteem in which the deceased was held. The remains were carried to their last resting place by Messrs. T. Blomley (grandson), J. E., A. J. and J. Byrne, F. and R. Heinecke, while the many beautiful floral wreaths were carried by Messrs A. and D. Kendall and H. Daly (nephews).

This public tree has about 60,100 people. Every person in the tree is related by birth or marriage to at least one other person in the tree - no strays. The people in the tree come mainly from four projects.
  1. My family tree. The original project begun about 1998. ID numbers less than about 6,000
  2. Canberra and Queanbeyan Pioneers. The next 30,000 begun about 2004. Sourced almost entirely from HAGSOC's excellent 'Biographical Register of Canberra and Queanbeyan'. The project began when I decided to add siblings, spouses and parents for a relation with an entry in the Register. 12 years work.
  3. Wagga Pioneers. I moved to Wagga and thought I would extend the Queanbeyan project by adding people from Wagga Wagga & District Family History Society's 'Pioneers of Wagga Wagga and District'. About 10,300 people added over about a year.
  4. Tumut Valley Pioneers. During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, I decided to extend the above projects by adding pioneers of the Tumut Valley. Initial sources were Snowden's 'Pioneers of the Tumut Valley' and 'Relict of ... Lives of Pioneering Women of Tumut and District'. Excellent references published by Tumut Family History Group. I've also added material from newspapers of the time - especially, death records, obituaries and weddings from 'Tumut and Adelong Times'. This project is in its early stage and might take a few years. I plan to extend to the upper Monaro (Adaminaby, Kiandra, Cooma, Jindabyne).
I upload new information to this website about every 3 months. My motivation for these projects is to provide public information for people seeking to trace ancestors and what became of them. Much of the information I provide can be difficult to find.
If you find errors - anything incorrect (dates, places, wrong parents, wrong children), and you have evidence, I would love to fix them. Or, if you have information that would extend my projects, do not hestiate to contact me on the email link below. I do not publish information on living people - which means I'm not much interested in people born after about 1920, and I usually distrust material from before about 1770 without extremely good sources.
