The Tumut and Adelong Times 27 Apr 1937
OBITUARY MRS. CECIL PIPER A wave of gloom spread over Tumut and district on Friday when the sad news was circularised that Mrs. Edna Piper, wife of Mr. Cecil Piper, of Goobragandra Station, had passed away at Valmar Private Hospital, after a double operation. Deceased was not well some little time before entering hospital, and becoming worse came to town to consult a doctor, with the result that she was ordered into hospital. After a few days' observation it was diagnosed that an intestinal obstruction had developed and an operation became necessary, and the premature birth of the child she was bearing inevitable. Two days after the ordeal the patient succumbed, and the little babe, a daughter, died shortly after the mother's death. The late Mrs. Piper was the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wade, of Railway End, and had been married some 5 years to Mr. Cecil Piper, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Israel Piper, of Goobragandra Station. She was 29 years of age, and leaves a sorrowing husband and a little son to mourn their irreparable loss, besides her parents and others of their family, for whom profound sympathy is expressed on all sides. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon, the remains being interred in the Pres byterian portion of the New Ceme tery, Rev. J. A. Malcomson offici ating at he graveside, Mr. C. W. Burt carried out the mortuary arrangements. The coffin was bestrewn with very many beautiful wreaths, tributes to the esteem of the departed, and the cortege which left from the parents' home was a very lengthy one. The blow is the more poignant to the husband in that he lost his only brother through a gun accident seven months ago.
