The Tumut and Adelong Times 2 Apr 1940
OBITUARY EDWIN JOHN CARRIGG The death occurred suddenly at his property at Bombowlee on Thursday morning last at 10 o'clock of another old Tumut identity in the person of Mr. Edwin John Carrigg, at the age of 76 years. Heart failure was the cause of his demise. The late Mr. Carrigg was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Carrigg and was born at Mondongo. He followed pastoral pursuits and leased a property at Tumut Plains. He later purchased a property just on the Tumut side of the Bombowlee Creek and which he worked successfully for 34 years until his retirement ten years ago. The late Mr. Carrigg never married and on his retirement he leased his property to his brother-in-law, Mr. O'Neill, though he remained at the old home until his death. He had been under the doctor's care, but was his usual self, during the days just prior to his passing. On Thursday morning his sister heard him moaning in the sit ting-room and on her reaching him he passed away. There are three sisters surviving — Emily (Mrs. Murray), Tumut; Gertrude (Mrs. O'Neill), Tumut, and Catherine (Mrs. Freebody), Sydney. One brother, Alfred, and three step brothers, Arthur, Stuart and George McDonell, are deceased. The funeral took place on Friday, the remains being interred in the Pres byterian portion of the New Cemet ery, Rev. Donald M. Baird officiating at the graveside, whilst Mr. H. W. Baker carried out the mortuary arrangements. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Les. and Dick O'Neill, Harry Lowther, G. McDonell, T. Twomey and A. Brown. |
