By the time Edith Mary, the third child of William and Asenath Roberts was born on 19 Feb 1860, the family was living in Brisbane. As the family maiden aunt, Edie or 'Aunt Roberts' was a great help in emergencies. When her nephew Otto's wife Olivia died, Edie spent a few months at their Upper Bankstown property, taking care of the children.

Tank water was only used for drinking and cooking; dam water sufficed for the garden and for laundry. When she needed to wash clothes, Edie and two of the boys - Alfred and Harold, would go to the dam and bring water in a barrel on a four wheeled trolley up the steep hill. Edie was a big woman and she would be out in front pulling with all her might on the rope while the two boys pushed from behind! When she wasn't looking they often jumped on the back for a free ride!

Edith died at Balmain in 1937. Quite possibly she had lived with her sister Asenath Walther at 109 Darling Street.
