OBITUARY MRS. R. J. MIDDLETON The death occurred in Wagga on Friday of a very old and highly res pected resident of the Oberne dist rict. Mrs. Elizabeth Catherine Middleton, of "Fairview" Oberne, after an illness of over two months, at the age of 65 years. Mrs. Middle ton was the wife of Mr. Robert James Middleton and had lived in the Humula and Oberne districts practically all her life. She was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends. Born at Batlow, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fallon. Mrs. Middleton is survived by her husband and seven sons, Messrs. Aubrey W. J. Middleton (Cootamundra), Robert Middleton (Cooma), Herbert Middleton (Naran dera), Claude Middleton (Byrock), George Middleton (Humula), and Alan and Keith Middleton ("Fairview"): four sisters, Mrs. G. Cowan (Adelong), Mrs. J. Wild, Mrs. M. Lowther, and Mrs. L. Phillips (Syd ney), and one brother, Mr. Walter Fallon (Sydney). One daughter (Verla Gertrude) predeceased her. The funeral took place on Saturday, the coffined remains being interred in the Humula Cemetery. The cortege moved from Mr. J. C. McDonald's funeral premises, Wagga, and, as it passed through Tarcutta and Umbango, was joined by many cars, and on arrival at the Humula cemetery was a very large and repre sentative funeral. The interment took place in the Church of England cemetery, Humula, where Rev. C. A. Baker officiated. The coffin was carried to the grave by Messrs. Aub rey, Robert, Claude, George, Keith and Allan Middleton (sons), and the pall bearers were Messrs. Herbert Middleton (son), Benjamin Murray (brother), Ken Cowan (nephew), Thomas Bardwell, F. Willis, G. Peel, Horace Peel and R. Cutler. The floral tray, laden with many beauti ful wreaths, was carried by Messrs. L. Phelan, C. McCracken, H. Che ney, and G. Stockwell. The chief mourners at the graveside were the bereaved husband, Mr Robert James Middleton, the seven sons mentioned above, Mrs Cowan, of Adelong (sis ter), Mrs. George Middleton, Mrs. Claude Middleton, and Mrs. Herbert Middleton (daughters-in-law), Misses Joyce and Eileen Middleton and Nor man Middleton (grandchildren), and many friends who were present from Wagga, Borambola, Tarcutta, Humu la, Oberne, Westbrook, Umbango, Cootamundra and Adelong, which testified to the respect and esteem in which Mrs. Middleton was held. Noticeable at the graveside were Mr and Mrs M. Reeckman, Mrs John Swaysland, Miss Jean Swaysland, Messrs. A. Cheney and Rosetta, Mrs C. Huber, Mr and Mrs H. Nichols, Mrs C. Nugent, Messrs R. Haggar, J. Hensell, H. and B. Murrell, Mrs Thos. Bardwell, Mr Thomas Rogers, Mr and Mrs D. Cheney, Mrs. J. Cheney, Mr Albert Cheney, Mrs A. Peel, Mr and Mrs J. Collins, Mr and Mrs F. Willis, Mr James Nugent jr, Mrs. Cobden, Mrs Devey, Messrs W. Cheney, E. Nugent, and P. Murphy, Mr and Mrs Christle Cheney, Mr and Mrs G. Evans, Mr and Mrs C. Oak man, Mr W. Blewitt, Mr and Mrs Chas. Galvin, Mr and Mrs Norman Willis, Messrs C. McCracken, A. Wilson, and S. Blacksley, Mrs Stock well senr., Mr and Mrs H. Peel, Mr and Mrs R. Black, Mr D. Cutler, and Mrs E. Whelan. Among the many floral tributes were wreaths from the Presbyterian girls, Humula, and the pupils of the Humula Public School. The funeral arrangements were conducted by Mr J. C. McDon ald, of Wagga.

This public tree has about 60,100 people. Every person in the tree is related by birth or marriage to at least one other person in the tree - no strays. The people in the tree come mainly from four projects.
  1. My family tree. The original project begun about 1998. ID numbers less than about 6,000
  2. Canberra and Queanbeyan Pioneers. The next 30,000 begun about 2004. Sourced almost entirely from HAGSOC's excellent 'Biographical Register of Canberra and Queanbeyan'. The project began when I decided to add siblings, spouses and parents for a relation with an entry in the Register. 12 years work.
  3. Wagga Pioneers. I moved to Wagga and thought I would extend the Queanbeyan project by adding people from Wagga Wagga & District Family History Society's 'Pioneers of Wagga Wagga and District'. About 10,300 people added over about a year.
  4. Tumut Valley Pioneers. During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, I decided to extend the above projects by adding pioneers of the Tumut Valley. Initial sources were Snowden's 'Pioneers of the Tumut Valley' and 'Relict of ... Lives of Pioneering Women of Tumut and District'. Excellent references published by Tumut Family History Group. I've also added material from newspapers of the time - especially, death records, obituaries and weddings from 'Tumut and Adelong Times'. This project is in its early stage and might take a few years. I plan to extend to the upper Monaro (Adaminaby, Kiandra, Cooma, Jindabyne).
I upload new information to this website about every 3 months. My motivation for these projects is to provide public information for people seeking to trace ancestors and what became of them. Much of the information I provide can be difficult to find.
If you find errors - anything incorrect (dates, places, wrong parents, wrong children), and you have evidence, I would love to fix them. Or, if you have information that would extend my projects, do not hestiate to contact me on the email link below. I do not publish information on living people - which means I'm not much interested in people born after about 1920, and I usually distrust material from before about 1770 without extremely good sources.
