TUMUT PLAINS PRE-NUPTIAL FELICITATIONS On Thursday last a very pleasant evening was spent at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. Crampton, where residents and wellwishers assembled to bid farewell to Miss Nellie Malone, on the , eve of her marriage to Mr. McRae. who is in the storekeeping business in that thriving town of Wagga Wagga. Miss Malone is the second youngest daughter of. those highly respected Tumut Plains identities, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Malone. Mr. W. Crampton, acting as chairman, explained the object of the gathering, dwelling on the superior qualities of the guest as a teacher, and her love and devotion to her home and her .parents. He was ably supported by Messrs. Reg Malone, D. Lefevre, M. Halloran, F. J. Bourke and many others, each in turn speaking of Miss Malone in glowing terms as a school teacher, endearing herself as she had done to the children she taught and all with whom she came in contact, also as an organiser of school functions and one of the greatest tennis sports the district has ever known, each speaker also extending congratulations to Miss Malone and wishing her connubial bliss, and a prosperous and a happy future. Mr. Merv. Hargreaves (on behalf of the residents) presented Miss Malone with a valuable (sessions) eight-day clock in oak case, and a silver-mounted cake-box, asking her to accept these presents as marks of repect and esteem from her friends and wellwisliers on Tumut Plains. Mr. Hargreaves spoke at some len gth and touched on the recipient's admirable .and amiable qualities, also endorsing the remarks of previ ous speakers, and concluded by con gratulating Miss Malone and wishing her and her intended a prosperous and happy future. Miss Malone thanked her numer ous friends for their kindly senti ments, good wishes and presents, which would be most treasured. She also thanked those people who had gone to so much trouble in arranging the very pleasant function on her behalf, and concluded by inviting ' any of her friends to call at her home at Wagga, where they would be made most welcome. Dancing and cards were again in dulged in. Music for the dancing was supplied on the piano by Mrs A. Power (Darbalara), Mrs. Skein (Bat low), Mrs. T. Malone, Mr. P. Mc Alister, Miss Hargreaves, also by Mr.. H. Jones (accordeon) . During the evening songs were rendered by Mr. John Clout, Mrs. T. Malone and Mr. Jones. A splendid supper was served about 11 o'clock, and dancing was resumed till after mid. night, when the singing of 'Auld Lang Syne' and votes of thanks con cluded the proceedings. Thus ended one of the most pleas ing functions ever held at Tumut Plains. The whole of the arrange ments were in the hands of Mes dames F. T. Malone, E. G. Sturt, W. Crampton and Miss S. Hargrea ves, who are to be congratulated on their splendid effort. |
