OBITUARY MRS. GRAHAM McDONELL
Tumut was shocked by the news on Friday last that Mrs. Graham McDonell, had passed away in the early hours of that morning after a few hours illness. For years now Mrs. McDonell has had a heart condition, but a few days rest would usually ward off an attack. Last week she had been resting for a day or so but on Thursday night appeared so much better that her son Tom and his wife, who resided with her in Fitzroy Street, went out for a walk. On their return Mrs. McDonell was not well and Dr. Mason was called. His report was so grave that the members of the family who were close enough were summoned immediately and their mother passed away about 3 a.m. The late Mrs. Emma Rose McDonell was born at Bombowlee Creek on November 28, 1885, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William John Piper. In June, 1908, she married, at Bombowlee Creek, Arthur Graham McDonell, and for the past thirty years has lived in Fitzroy Street. Her early life was spent at Bombowlee Creek, and apart from short periods away has lived in Tumut all her life. Of a quiet, retiring nature, she took no part in public affairs but would respond in any worthy appeal made. A good neighbour her sudden demise is a great shock to her family and friends. Of the family of eleven, one daughter Sylvia died in infancy, the others are: Jock (Goulburn), Colleen (Mrs. A.. Hobbs, Wollongong), Arthur (Tumut), Gordon (Tumut), Fred (Newcastle), Fan (Mrs. C. Welsh, Adelong Creek), Viv, Tom, Ken (all of Tumut) and Pearl (Mrs. O'Brien, Ingleburn). There are also nineteen grandchildren living and one deceased. The surviving brothers and sisters are Margaret (Mrs. H. Kemp, Sydney), Amy (Mrs. Harders, Ingleburn), Eva (Mrs. SamBye, (Tumut), William and A. F. ('Barney', Bombowlee Creek) and Leo (Ingleburn). Those who predeceased their sister were Arthur (Peak Hill), Jack (Bombowlee Creek), Mary Ann (Mrs. Nicholls, Peak Hill) and Fred and Alice, who died in infancy. After a service at the Presbyterian Church the funeral left at 3 o'clock on Saturday for the new cemetery. Rev. R. S. Woodger officiated at the Church and the grave-side, and Messrs. W. Beavan and Son had charge of the arrangements. The pall-bearers were six sons, Messrs. Arthur, Gordon, Fred, Viv, Tom and Ken McDonell.
