Personal Notes: |
Obit from Feb 1951
"The death occurred last Monday of a well known and respected resident of Ayr, when Mrs W.J. Ferguson [nee Florence Madden, daughter of Julian Edward] passed away after several years of ill-health. The later Mrs. Ferguson, who was born in Charters Towers, was the second daughter of Mr J.E. Madden, of Charters Towers and Homestead, and now one of the oldest residenst of that district. The family moved to Ayr in 1918, and took over the farm of Mr j.R. McKenzie on Airdmillan Road. On demobilisation from the First Wolrd War, Mr and Mrs. Ferguson were married and settled on a farm on the Home Hill road near the Burdekin traffic bridge and lived there for some 20 years. Owing to Mrs. Ferguson's ill-health they moved into Ayr where they lived up to the time of her death. The deceased is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs C Cox of Ayr, and one son, Bill of All Souls School, Charters Towers. A Communion Service in memory was held at the Church of England, Ayr, at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. A very large number of friends attended the funeral which moved from the church at 4 p.m." |
