Agents also reported on the same day reported... THE IMMIGRANT SHIPS The Kate, s., went down to the Bay on Saturday morning, and having taken on board the Health Officer at Lytton, proceeded alongside the Earl Russell. Dr Purdie made his official inspection, and having found the passengers all in good health, and the ship in excellent, admitted her to pratique. The Earl Russell brings out about 300 passengers, who are immigrants sent out under the auspices of the Imperial Commissioners. After leaving the vessel the Kate ran alongside the Wandrahm, to permit of Dr. Purdie examining this ship also. This vessel did not turn out so satisfactorily, and she was not passed, as many deaths had taken place on the voyage, and sickness still prevailed on board. The Wandrahm has about 400 passengers. This business having been concluded the Kate steamed over to the Dunwich, so as to enable the Health Officer to examine the La Rochelle lying off there. The necessary fumigations having been made. this ship was released from quarantine, and will shortly be towed up to the anchorage. Dr. Purdie also visited the quarantine station to inspect the immigrants there, who are progressing favorably, no new cases of sickness having occurred, the Kate then started on her return voyage, and arrived at Harris' whaRF AT 11PM on Saturday...
