Personal Notes:
The Tumut and Adelong Times 3 Aug 1926
OBITUARY MR. FRANK C. ARENTZ. This winter has seen many of the old hands succumb to its rigors. Yet another, Mr. Frank Charles Arentz, went to that bourne whence no traveller returns at a quarter to 2 o'clock on Wednesday morning last, after a short illness, at the age of 77 years, death being due to a complication of disorders of the system incidental to old age, accentuated by influenza. Sixty-nine years ago deceased came to this district with his parents. In his early manhood he was associated with roadmaking, and became one of the district's chief road contractors at the time when the roads were being made into the mountain regions where gold rushes were taking place. Farming pursuits next claimed attention, 'and in 1895 he leased part of the Cook family's Petfield estate (the homestead block), where he remained and labored successfully until his death. He was of a quiet unobtrusive disposition, at peace with his neighbors and the soul of honor in all his business dealings, which attribute his numer ous sons inherited. He took ill on the Saturday previous to his death, and sinking gradually never again rose from his bed . He leaves a sorrowing widow, one daughter (Mrs. George Green, Tumut Plains), and six sons (Sergt. Phil of Forbes, Constable Jack of Cowra, Leonard of Gocup, Stephen, Reuben and Wallace of Tumut) , with whom we deeply sympathise in their great loss. The funeral took place on Thursday last, the burial being in the Roman Catholic portion of the New Cemetery, Rev. Fr. Sharkey, P.P., officiating at the grave. The bearers were Mr. Wallie Green (grandson) and five sons (Phil, Jack, Stephen, Reuben and Wallace).
