- Notes: Firstly Geoff Chessor died on 28/5/1980 and lived at Hornsby, however he died at the railway yards at Eveleigh, Redfern, the result of an industrial accident, where he was caught between the buffers of a train and carriage (he was a Train Driver). Geoff married Kathleen Harpley who was born on 24th September, 1924 at Wallendbeen NSW and they were married on 7th September, 1946 at Exeter NSW. Kath died at Wahroonga on 27th November, 2009.
Geoff’s mother was Ivy Rose Hall and she was born in 1891 in Seymour Victoria. Ivy’s father was Thomas Hall born in Guildford Victoria in 1864 and died in Temora NSW in 1929. His wife Alice nee Booty also died in Temora but in 1952. I think she was born in Margaretting, Essex England in 1863. The parents of Thomas Hall, were George Israel Hall born 22nd March, 1826 at “Winburndale” Kelso NSW and died at Limestone Creek Victoria on 15th May,1873, Thomas’s mother was Catherine Ivy (Kate) Ivory born 4th June, 1838 at Dunshauglin, County Meath, Ireland and was sent to Australia aboard the “William & Mary” as an Irish orphan, arriving in Sydney in 1849. They supposedly married in Sydney in 1853, (by my calculations that made her only 15). She remarried to Charles Henry Winter at Castlemaine Victoria on 18th December, 1876. She died on 18th February, 1914 at Greenbushes, Western Australia. Her parents were James & Ellen Ivory (nee Hand), who must have died in The Great Irish Famine. I have no other information on them. George Israel Hall’s parents were John A Hall jnr, born 1792 in Esh, County Durham, England & Ann Amelia Andrews born 15th March, 1795 in Westminster, London. John stole a Black Gelding in 1814 and was sentenced to death but he was transported to NSW for life, arriving in NSW aboard the “Baring” on 7th September, 1815. Ann was also a convict and was sentenced at Middlesex Goal on 30th November, 1814 and was sent to NSW for 7 years, arriving on the “Mary Ann” in 1815. They were granted permission to marry and were married on 20th March,1820 at Liverpool NSW. John was given numerous Tickets of Leave, then cancelled and was at one time sentenced to 3 years Solitary Confinement on bread & water but became ill and was sent to hospital, but he did spend time on a chain gang. Ann died 11th March, 1841 in Kelso and John A died 22nd January, 1858 in Yass NSW. John was supposedly a LUDDITE (a person who destroyed machinery because it made people loose their jobs). John A Hall’s parents were John Hall & Deborah Barrow who were married 23rd November, 1783 in Esh, County Durham, England (that is the only info I have on them. Ann Amelia’s parents were Israel Andrews, born 1760 in London, her mother was Mary Lilly, born 1760 in London and they were married on 7th July, 1790 in Hanover Square, London (that is the only info I have on them). |
