- Notes: George John Spark Bowcher bap 03 Nov 1828 at All Hallows, Exeter shows up
on the 1861 Census as a grocer's assistant who lived with his parents. His father John Bowcher Third was shown as an upholsterer. When his aunt Matilda, widow of Edward, died in 1886 she bequeathed to George a gold watch and a portrait of his grandfather John Bowcher First. At his death on 15 Oct 1908, George was shown as Gentleman with an estate of 3508 pounds. At some stage he wed a lady named Elizabeth and lived at 42 Woodstock Road, Redland Green, Bristol. Either they didn't have any children or none survived as his estate went to his nephews, nieces and grandnieces. I wonder if the portrait of John First has survived? |
