| George Payne was born in England, and married first in England to Sophia Able. They had two children, but she and the two children died in England. George was a convict, came to Australia in 1828, met and married Margaret Irvine in 1929, but no children. He then seems to have begun relationships with two ladies to whom he had children, Eliza Garthwaite whom he never married, and Mary Ann Jackson whom he eventually married in 1850 after having a number of children with her. In all he fathered 19 children. The children are not listed in strict chronological order, but grouped with those of the same mother, the first two, children of Sophia Able; none to Margaret Irvine; four of Eliza Garthwaite and the last 13 are children of Mary Ann Jackson. |
