OBITUARY MR GEORGE MEALE The last of the five brothers Meale who came from Camden, with their parents, in the early days of the set tlement in the Cootamundra district, passed away on Tuesday — Mr George Mettle, at the age of 77, at the residence of his son Thomas, at the intersection of the Gundagai and Jugiong roads. After leaving the land deceased settled in Cootamundra. His wife died in 1923. The family comprise three sons and five daughters— James, Cootamundra ; Thomas, Gundagai road ; Ernest, New Zealand ; Mrs Fred. Faunt, Sutherland ; Mrs McNaughty. Sydney ; Mrs Thomas, Melbourne, Mrs Johnson, Marrickville; Mrs W. Rivers, Tumut, and Miss Margaret Meale, Sydney. One sister survives, Mrs Hull, residing in Marrickville. Latterly the deceased was holidaying in the Tumut district, and returned looking fairly well for his years. The end came rather unexpectedly. The property originally held by the Meale family at Brawlin, is now split up among the Corbys, Mr. Percy Scott and Mr. Cecil Last, the last-named occupying what was once the residence of Mr. Meale. |
