Rt. Hon. Sir George William Buchanan was born on 25 November 1854.2 He was the son of Rt. Hon. Sir Andrew Buchanan, 1st Bt. and Frances Katharine Mellish.2 He married Lady Georgina Meriel Bathurst, daughter of Allen Alexander Bathurst, 6th Earl Bathurst of Bathurst and Hon. Meriel Leicester Warren, on 25 February 1885.1 He died on 20 December 1924 at age 70.1
Rt. Hon. Sir George William Buchanan was in the Diplomatic Service in 1876.2 He was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to The Hague between 1908 and 1910.2 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1909.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1910.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Russia between 1910 and 1918.2 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1913.1 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1915.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Italy between 1918 and 1921.2 |
