George Green was born in England in 1809. He worked for the Shelley family at Goulburn. After a stint at the Ovens Diggings in 1852 he was among the first to purchase farms from the Estate Of William Shelley of Bombowlee. He marrled Ann Doran in Goulburn and had a family of six;

He died in Tumut at the age of 57 on 17 June 1866, The Tumut and Adelong Times 21 Jun 1866 On Sunday evening last, the second — Mr. George Green, breathed his last, aged 57 years, and was buried on Tuesday afternoon. A great number of his friends had assembled to pay their last tribute to his remains, which were followed to the grave by a large concourse of persons to whom he was long familiarly known. |
