Sudden Death: The Coroner for this district, Mr. H. Dawson, held an inquest at Dingy Springs, near Adaminaby, on Monday last, into the death of the late Mr. George Eccleston Jury : Alfred Joseph Curtis, Eldridge Dunn, Thomas Brayshaw, George Goodwin, John Cook, Joseph Ward, junior, Thomas Green, and William Dunn. William Eccleston, sworn: I am a son of the deceased George Eccleston: on Friday, evening, about 4 o'clock, I had an altercation with a man who was travelling with sheep; I was fighting with the man; my father ran towards us; but before reaching us he fell down; I went to him, and after he gave a sigh or two he died; he was an old man, 78 years of age. John Clifford; sworn: I am a legally qualified medical practitioner, and reside at Cooma; I have made a post mortem examination of the body of the deceased, George Eccleston, and in my opinion, death was caused through disease of the heart..Poor Mr. George Eccleston, one of our oldest and respected residents, is no more. He departed this life at the ripe age of 70 years. This severs one of the links that bind us to the past, connects us with the grand old times, and with the great rush to the golden regions. The Coroner came from Cooma to hold an inquest on Monday; the result of the inquiry was the finding by the jury that deceased expired from disease of the heart. Dr. Clifford accompanied Mr. Dawson, and pointed out the cause of the sudden demise of the late Mr. Eccleston. It was at his son William's residence that Mr. George Eccleston breathed his last. On Monday, the remains of deceased were buried in the Roman Catholic cemetery at Adaminaby, Upwards of 200 residents followed the funeral. Contributor: Dr. J The Seeker (47214870) |
