- Notes: After this the establishment of a school was a foregone conclusion; but almost thirty months elapsed before George Robinson began lessons in April 1861 on the corner of Tarcutta and Sturt Streets where the Riverine Club now stands. Tenders had to be called, and then invited again on an amended basis, before local builders McIntosh and Cruickshank began construction late in 1859; and after completion of the building in September 1860 the Board of National Education took six months to provide a teacher. There were two very significant facts about the establishment of this school; the great responsibility for collection of funds and for planning and construction of the building assumed by the local patrons; and the willingness, even eagerness, of parents to subscribe towards their children's education.
