Gladys was the eldest daughter of Albert Hugh Pettit (1861-1932) and Bridget Stuart (1869-1955). Her siblings include Alice V Pettit (1892-1978), Albert Stanley Pettit (1895-1987), Austin Eric Pettit (1899-1970), Elsie Olive Pettit (1901-1961), Edna M “Teddie” Pettit (1906-1981) and Neville Hugh Pettit (1908-1989). Gladys was first cousin with Oliver Arthur Pettit (1886-1953). Their fathers were brothers. Oliver mentioned previously married Ivy Ethel Glasscock. In 1943 her address was 11 Chester Street, Petersham, Sydney. Note her son John and daughter Margaret got Stuart as a middle name from their grandmother’s maiden name.
