Daughter of Mary Ann Ranger and George Wheatley, she married Thomas Wroe 23 Jan 1866 in St. Matthias' Church of England, Bombala, New South Wales.
from monaropioneers.com Extract from the Manaro Mercury 6th January 1872 (From our own correspondent):- "On New Year's Day, the Sons of Temperance held their picnic on the Bombala Racecourse. There was a good many people present. Unfortunately, a most serious accident occurred early in the morning; it was caused by two horses running against each other. One horse was ridden by a woman named Mrs.Roe, of the McLoughlin River, the other by a man named Slattery. The animals were going at a sharp canter when the collision occurred, and I am informed that both animals were thrown. Since the occurrence, Mrs.Roe has been speechless and is not expected to get over it. I hear that she is the mother of three children, the youngest of whom is only ten months old. The man Slattery was not much hurt; he is now out of danger." Extract from the Manaro Mercury 13th January 1872:- "Mrs. Roe, of whose accident you were apprised in last week's letter, died, on Tuesday morning last, from the effects of the injuries that she received during the Sons of Temperance picnic at the Racecourse on New Year's Day. She was buried this day (Wednesday). Bombala, January 10th, 1872". |
