The Murrumbidgee Irrigator (Leeton, NSW : 1915 - 1954) Fri 19 Feb 1932
OBITUARY DEATH OF MR. H. J. HARMAN
Having been sick only a couple of days, the announcement yesterday morning that Mr. Hector John Harman; aged 55 years, storekeeper, of Leeton, had died at 11.30 o'clock on Wednesday night, came as a great shock to the business community and general public. A keen sportsman, he was out with the gunmen for the opening of the duck season on Monday. He, however, took ill going home that morning. Born at Fiji, the late Mr. Harman went to New Zealand before coming on to Sydney. He later went to Nimitybell and Holbrook, and in 1910 opened up a business on his own account at Lockhart. In February 1920, Mr. Harman came to Leeton and purchased the business of Mr. J. T. Sykes, and in August, 1923, erected the imposing and commodious Structure that now graces Pine Ave. He is survived by his wid-ow and their two children Muston and Gwendoline (Mrs. Dargin). He also has a sister living in Fiji. The funeral takes place this after noon, moving from his late residence Boree Street, at 3 p.m. .
SHOPS TO CLOSE DURING FUNERAL
Out of respect for their late fellow businessman, and vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce, the store, keepers of Leeton have arranged to close their premises this afternoon from 2.45 p.m. to 4 p.m. during the funeral proceedings.
