The Tumut and Adelong Times 28 Jun 1949
OBITUARY MRS. ARTHUR DEAN The death occurred at her home in Simpson Street., Tumut, on Sunday morning last of Mrs. Jessie Mary Dean, wife of Mr. Arthur Dean, of Tumut, after a severe illness extending over six months. She had suffered severely with heart trouble, dropsy and a number of internal complaints which she had borne with great fortitude and her passing came as happy release. The late Mrs. Dean was born in Sydney 64 years ago, her maiden name being Noble, and in 1910 at St. Benedict's Church, Sydney she married Mr. Arthur Dean, of Tumut, where she has since resided, with the exception of a period at Brungle. She was essentially a home loving woman and lived for her home and family. Mrs. Arthur Dean was one who was never known to speak ill of anyone. No matter what their faults were she in her charity and own innate goodness of heart could always find some point in their favor. Her home, family and garden were her world, but, despite these absorbing interests she always found time to assist in any function or appeal for the Sisters, her Church or charity. She was an officer-bearer in the Sacred Heart Sodality, a practical earnest Catholic, a devoted wife and mother and a loyal friend. During her illness, borne with the greatest fortitude and resignation, she was greatly consoled by the regular visits of Monsignor Sharkey, Rev. Frs. Commins and Casey and the Sisters of Mercy. Mrs. Dean had been cared for at home during the last few months, by her husband, two daughters, sons-in-law and Miss Jenny Alston, cheered also by visits from her sons and families, and niece Mrs. Nicholas, of Canberra. Besides the sorrowing husband there are four sons and two daughters surviving: Reginald (Port Kembla), Robert ( Moulamein), Kenneth (Tumut), Geoffrey (Canberra), Winifred (Mrs. J. Montgomery, Tumut) and Vera (Mrs. C, J. Roddy, Tumut). Brothers and sisters are Messrs. William (Arncliffe), Robert (Leichardt), Frederick Noble (Sydney), Elsie (Mrs. Nolan, Berala) and Florence (Mrs. Steele, Balmain). The funeral took place yesterday afternoon leaving from the Catholic Church for the Tumut New Cemetery where interment took Rev. F. Casey officiated at the graveside and funeral arrangements were in the hands of W. W. Beavan and Son. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Reg., Robt., Ken and Geoff. Dean (sons), Jim Montgomery and Clem Roddy (sons-in law). |
