- Notes: John Fitzgerald was married in Ireland in 1839. The same year, with his young wife he arrived in Sydney and went straight to Darbalara where he was employed for a short time as a stockman.
He then went to Tumut Plains and worked for George Shelley. Shortly afterwards he entered into a grazing partnership with William Kiley on a property at Spring Creek. After a few years Kiley bought out Fitzgerald's interests and he then conducted the "Horse and Jockey Hotel". The Fitzgeralds had seven sons and three daughters. One of the daughters, Anne Fitzgerald, married William Masters. She was the mother of; . Florence Masters the well-known teacher, . Margaret Masters, . George Masters, . Reuben Masters, . Nellie Matsers, . and other children. |
