Son of James Merrigan and Sarah Ann (Hatchell) Merrigan.
Married Alice Maude White in 1916. Father of Daphne Alice Merrigan, William James Merrigan, Ronald Joseph Merrigan, Veronica Joyce (Merrigan) Piltz, Kenneth John "Peter" Merrigan, Mona Thelma (Merrigan) Nicholls, and John Roy "Jack" Merrigan. MR. J. MERRIGAN The death occurred in the Wagga Base Hospital early on Saturday morning after an extended illness of Mr. James Merrigan at the age of 47 years. Mr. Merrigan was a well-known resident of Uranquinty and leaves a widow arid six children. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, the cortege moving from St. Michael's Cathedral at 2 o'clock after prayers had been read by the Rev. Father Desmond. The coffin was carried from the church and at the graveside by Messrs. W. Merrigan, J. Merrigan and T. Merrigan (brothers), W. Merrigan junr. (son), J. Daley, of Uranquinty, and R. Burt, of Uranquinty. The chief mourners present were the bereaved wife and mother (Mrs. Merrigan), and the six children. Among the floral tributes were wreaths from Uranquinty Football Club and officers and members of the Advance Wagga branch G.U.O.O.F.
