Personal Notes: |
The children listed represent three sets of parents; Oliver Cox and Ann had four children, Margaret, John, Bridget and Ann; then it seems that Oliver died and Joseph married Ann and they had four children Eliza, Isabella, Catherine and William; two children and Ann, their mother died on the voyage to Australia. Joseph, with six children, then married Mary in Sydney and they proceeded to have nine children. John Cox, born 1823 held ‘Pulletop’ and ‘North East Mangoplah’; Richard, born 1848 held ‘Livingstone Gully’ and ‘Mt Peter’. Historical reference for this family is A R Wilkinson's, ‘The Cox Family at Livingstone Gully 1847-1907’ (UNE Master of Litt. These 1985.) held by CSU Library, Wagga Wagga. Two entries have been made for Joseph Cox because there are discrepancies in the children’s information from two sources. |

- Notes: Joseph Cox had been a passenger on the Lady McNaughton and his wife had dled during the voyage. Travelling with the Cox family were two girls, Mary and Margaret Maloney. Joseph Cox married Mary Moloney in 1837 and a daughter (Margaret) was born at Gobaralong in 1838. Margaret Cox married James Gormly 1n 1858 and they were married for nearly 59 years. At least four of her brothers settled in the Murrumbldgee area.
Joseph Cox grew some wheat at Gobaralong in 1838 and this is considered to be the first crop of wheat grown in the Murrumbidgee district. Joseph Cox and his family moved from Gobaralong to Brungle Creek in the Tumut valley in 1839. They then moved to the Wagga district in 1846 and this family still have many decendants in the area. |
This public tree has about 60,100 people. Every person in the tree is related by birth or marriage to at least one other person in the tree - no strays. The people in the tree come mainly from four projects.
If you find errors - anything incorrect (dates, places, wrong parents, wrong children), and you have evidence, I would love to fix them. Or, if you have information that would extend my projects, do not hestiate to contact me on the email link below. I do not publish information on living people - which means I'm not much interested in people born after about 1920, and I usually distrust material from before about 1770 without extremely good sources. g.bell@bigpond.net.au When you click the mail address abouve, if it does not open your email app, copy the address on the screen.
