- Notes: We have been researching Murdoch McKenzie for many years and have come against a brick wall regarding Christina Cameron and Margaret Adamson. Jessie Cameron died on 21st December 1862 (of fever 3 days) after giving birth to Murdoch Duncan who only lived for four days according the Jessie’s death certificate.

From the marriage certificate of Murdoch and Christina, Christina was a widow and aged 24 years. The parish records state that her parents were Hugh & Mary Cameron. Christina was a cousin of Donald Cameron, Dame Mary Gilmore’s father. That is the last we can find any information on Christina. In an obituary of Murdoch McKenzie’s death in the Wagga Wagga Advertiser dated 10th October 1895 there is no mention of any wives. It just states that he leaves a grown up family. On his death certificate it only shows his first and second marriage.

Murdock McKenzie was my Great Great Grandfather who married Jessie Cameron in Goulburn in 1851. Jessie had 6 children and died just after childbirth with a son, Murdoch Angus who also died and is buried at Mundarlo, Adelong on the Murrumbidgee River. Jessie is buried in the Gundagai Cemetery. Jessie’s father was John Cameron and mother, Ann Cameron came from Fort William, Scotland on the Charlotte Jane on 8 October, 1848 and died at Highfield, Taralga. Murdock McKenzie arrived on the Royal Saxon on 19 July, 1848. Archibald, Ann Cameron’s son registered her death.
I understand my Great Great Great Grandfather was John Cameron of Highfield whose children included Jessie Cameron who married Murdoch McKenzie and died in 1863

Murdock McKenzie married Christina Cameron in 1864 and they were married in Wagga Wagga at the Church of England Church, North Wagga. Christina gave the name of her parents as Hugh and Mary Cameron. Mary Gilmore suggests that Christina was her father’s favourite niece as she visited the McKenzies at Malebo, Wagga Wagga. The only Christina I can find was the daughter of George Cameron who married her cousin but he died leaving Christina with 5 children at 34.

Jessie McKenzie was also a cousin of Christina’s according to Mary Gilmore but there is a mystery of where Christina is in the scheme of things. We know that Murdock McKenzie advertised for a wife in a Scottish newspaper and a Mrs Margaret Adamson arrived with her daughter and Murdock married her.

What happened to Christina as we cannot find a death certificate and there is no record of her death. A Christina Cameron married a Mr Telford in Goulburn in 1879.
