John migrated to Australia with extended family on the vessel The "Caesar" departing Hamburg, Germany on 11 Nov 1854 and arrived at Twofold Bay (on the far south coast of NSW) on 19 March 1855. The party included his Mother; His Uncle and aunty (by Marriage) and cousins; in addition to his stepfamily. However, John's mother died on the passage to Australia.
He married Agnes McGregor in Mar 1868 in Rocky Plain, NSW. They had 8 (eight) children
