DEATH OF MR. JOHN BENTLEY.-It is with sincere regret that we chronicle the death of Mr. Bentley, an old resident of Wagga. Mr. Bentley had been failing in honith for some time past, and his death, which took place on Friday evening, the 23rd of April, was not altogether uexpected. He arrived in Wagga in October 1858, then quite a youth, as one of the staff of the Express, which was started at the end of the same month. When Mr. Price, some years later, gave up the paper, Mr. Bentley, in company with Mr. Rogerson, became the proprietors. Subsequently, Mr. Bentley succeded to the sole proprietorship, which he held until the property passed into the hands of the present owner. Mr. Bentley was identified with a number of local institutions. He was a steady supporter of the Mechanics' Institute, for his many services to which he was, some seven years ago created a life member. He gave a large amount of his time to the institute and contributed largely to its success by the amateur performances which he organised, and always took an active part in, with credit to himself. He was secretary to the free selectors association and the Wagga commons, in both of which bodies he manifested a lively interest until his failing health provented his giving them his attention . Some little time ago he represented North Wagga in the Municipal Council. He died at the comparatively early age of forty-three, leaving a widow and family. - Wagga Express.
