Personal Notes:
The Tumut and Adelong Times 12 Feb 1929
MR JOHN FLYNN Another old district pioneer, in the person of Mr. John Flynn, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. E. Pierse, of Harden, on Tuesday morning last, at the great age of 86 years. The late Mr Flynn was practically a native of the Jugiong district, and resided in and around that locality the greater part of his life, and was one of the best known and most highly respected personalities in the district, having followed farming pursuits till old age crept on him and he was compelled to retire and live in quietude with his wife and family. About 15 years ago he sett- led in Gundagai, and lived in Rankins' old home, Kimo Road, for some time, and later removed to Harden, where his wife predeceased him a few years ago. "Johnny," as he was familiarly called by all who knew him, was a conspicuous sportsman in the early days of country courses, and owned and trained many good racehorses, winning scores of races at provincial meetings. Deceased is survived by three daughters and three sons, viz., Mrs. O'Keefe (2), Mrs. E. Pierse, and Messrs. John, Frank and Dick, besides four brothers and two sisters, viz., Ted, Steve, Joe and Harry, and Mrs. Gallogley and Mrs. McCardle. His remains were laid to rest in the R.C. portion of the Harden ce- metery on Wednesday morning, quite a number of Tumut sportsmen there for the races paying their last respects to the memory of the departed.
