John Harvey
Obituary 16th August 1929 The death took place on Tuesday 13th inst., at the residence of his son, Glencoe, Berridale due to double pneumonia, following a fortnights illness, of John Harvey, of Hilldowns, Jindabyne, aged 71 years. He was the second son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Robert Harvey, of Jindabyne, and was born at Wambrook. When he was eleven years of age the family settled at Hilldowns, where he has lived ever since, except for three years spent at Captains Flat and Bungendore, during the mining boom. As a boy he drove a bullock team to haul logs to a saw pit to cut timber for the Jindabyne Hotel. Later he had a horse team and engaged in carrying on the Merimbula and Goulburn roads for about 30 years. After that he took up droving, and has been engaged in this work ever since. He landed his last mob at Wantabagery in June last. He took no part in public affairs, but was a great lover of sport of all kinds. He is survived by his widow, two children, Mrs. Wheatley, of Cooma and Richard of Jindabyne, an adopted daughter Mrs. Davison of Manly, four brothers, Richard of Jerangle, George of Berridale, Robert of Forbes, and Thomas of Jundabyne, five sisters, Mrs. Broadhaed of Tumut, Mrs. Jones of Cooma, Mrs. Minehan, of Cooma, Kate of Sydney and Mrs. Wallace of Jindabyne, also eight Grandchildren, and three great Grandchildren. The funeral which was very largely attended took place to Gegedzerick Cemetery on Wednesday 14th inst., the remains being laid to rest in the R.C. Section. Very Rev Dean Norris officiated.
