Descendants of MaryAnnie Willis
Generation No. 1
1. MARYANNIE11 WILLIS (JOHN10, WILLIAM9, JOHN8, ROBERT7, THOMAS6, JOHN5, ROBERT4, ROBERT3, ROBERT2,
FATHER1) was born July 16, 1872 in Gateshead, Co. Durham, Eng, VSI- 3rd Qtr #10a 821. She married JOHN
RICHARD AUBIN December 14, 1908 in St Aidan, S.Shields, DUR. VSI - 4th Qtr. 10a1223. He was born Abt. 1865
in England, age 5 on 1871 census & 43 on 1908 marriage.
Notes for MARYANNIE WILLIS:
Her marriage entry record #174 gives her name as Mary Annie, age 35, spinster, no profession, residence 25
Salmon Street (S. Shields), father John Willis deceased, his profession Supt. of Bridges (railway, as his trade was
Mason). Below, the minister writes that he married MARTHA Annie Willis! Witnesses were Wm. Willis likely her
older brother 1860-1940 and Mary Willis, perhaps her grandmother Mary Langton Willis born 1835, so age 73?
Her groom was 43, widower, Master Mariner, residence 451 Stanhope Road (S. Shields), father Philip Aubin
deceased, mariner.
There is a Mary A. Willis in the 1891 census of Whickham, age 18, born there and servant to an elderly couple
Thos. and Ann Richardson. She may be our Mary Annie Willis, daughter of John Willis and Mary Langton, who
later married John Richard Aubin.
Mary Annie became step-mother to the two children from her widowed husband's first marriage in 1891 to Mary
Ann Blackburn who was born in Gateshead 1870 and died in South Shields 1907. John Wm. Aubin was born in
South Shields and registered in Q4-1892, #10a 787. Edith May was also born in South Shields, Q2-1894, #10a
792.
Notes for JOHN RICHARD AUBIN:
John R. Aubin was first married in S. Shields, Q3-1891 per registration 10a 939 in FreeBMD. His bride was Mary
Ann Blackburn born about 1870 in Harton St. Peter Parish, Gateshead to William Blackburn age 34 and Ann 25.
She died in Q1-1907 #10a 530 in South Shields.
John re-married in South Shields, 1908 to MaryAnnie Willis daughter of John Willis 1826 - and Mary Langton
1835 - .
"I remember a May Aubin visiting our family in Port Arthur, Ont. I would guess it was after my parents were in
England for the 50th wedding anniversary of Dad's parents in 1933 and before the outbreak of WW ll in 1939.
She was a very pleasant lady and there was mention of a sea captain. Perhaps she was John's daughter Edith
MAY Aubin born 1894, making her 45 by 1939. To a lad of 14 all adults are old but allowing for that she seemed
50-ish." (Norman Beath Willis)

was a puzzle for a long time until a query to FreeBMD led to a helpful gentleman at

This public tree has about 60,100 people. Every person in the tree is related by birth or marriage to at least one other person in the tree - no strays. The people in the tree come mainly from four projects.
  1. My family tree. The original project begun about 1998. ID numbers less than about 6,000
  2. Canberra and Queanbeyan Pioneers. The next 30,000 begun about 2004. Sourced almost entirely from HAGSOC's excellent 'Biographical Register of Canberra and Queanbeyan'. The project began when I decided to add siblings, spouses and parents for a relation with an entry in the Register. 12 years work.
  3. Wagga Pioneers. I moved to Wagga and thought I would extend the Queanbeyan project by adding people from Wagga Wagga & District Family History Society's 'Pioneers of Wagga Wagga and District'. About 10,300 people added over about a year.
  4. Tumut Valley Pioneers. During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, I decided to extend the above projects by adding pioneers of the Tumut Valley. Initial sources were Snowden's 'Pioneers of the Tumut Valley' and 'Relict of ... Lives of Pioneering Women of Tumut and District'. Excellent references published by Tumut Family History Group. I've also added material from newspapers of the time - especially, death records, obituaries and weddings from 'Tumut and Adelong Times'. This project is in its early stage and might take a few years. I plan to extend to the upper Monaro (Adaminaby, Kiandra, Cooma, Jindabyne).
I upload new information to this website about every 3 months. My motivation for these projects is to provide public information for people seeking to trace ancestors and what became of them. Much of the information I provide can be difficult to find.
If you find errors - anything incorrect (dates, places, wrong parents, wrong children), and you have evidence, I would love to fix them. Or, if you have information that would extend my projects, do not hestiate to contact me on the email link below. I do not publish information on living people - which means I'm not much interested in people born after about 1920, and I usually distrust material from before about 1770 without extremely good sources.
