Personal Notes: |
Known as Polly, the youngest sister of Elizabeth Nuttall. Polly married Thomas Shirt and went to live in Lynwood Avenue, Darwen. Apparently she had a watch that Elizabeth Nuttall should have inherited when her mother died. It caused an argument at the time. Long after Elizabeth Nuttall died, Polly herself died. She and Thomas Shirt had no children. Polly had asked Alice Nuttall (Wane / Anderson) if she would look after her in her old age. Alice said she wanted to stay with her family in Africa. Polly promised that if Alice came to live with her, she would leave her all her money and her house. Still Alice refused. When Polly died, she did not leave her money to Alice but she did leave a watch to Alice’s granddaughter, Josephine. It had been converted from a fob to a wrist watch but was still recognizable. Alice thought that perhaps that was Polly’s way of getting it back to the people and the branch of the family it really belonged to. |
