The Tumut and Adelong Times 5 Jun 1928
OBITUARY. MASTER NOEL ALFRED ATKINSON Death, under very sad circumstances, came to Master Noel Alfred Atkinson, aged 15½ years, second and youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. V. Atkinson, of Tumut Plains, in the Tumut and District Hospital, on May 29. He first complained of headache and pains at the back of the eyes, and on being attended by Dr. Clouston his parents were advised to take him to the Tumut Hospital for treatment. This was acted upon. Drs. Browne and Clouston were particularly attentive to the case, presenting as it did quite unusual symptoms. The patient would lapse into sleep and had to be wakened on each occasion when visited and spoken to; and again he would lapse into this comatose state. With the aid of laboratory tests the disease was diagnosed. But nothing could be done to save the young life and he passed away after a week's treatment. He was a fine type of developed youth, being 5ft. 10n. tall and weighed 10st., and just prior to taking ill displayed his ambitions by mapping out a plan whereby he would have been able to supplement his father's and brother's efforts in cultivation on their farm. Alas! ''The best laid schemes of mice and men gang aft agly.' The blow was a terrible wrench to the parents and grandmother (who attains her 86th birthday this month), an immediately previous bereavement being the death of Mrs. Atkinson sr's. brother, Mr. Chas. Clout sr., at Belmore, Sydney, on Sunday of last week. He had never had any other sickness since two years of age. The funeral took place on Wednesday last, moving from the hospital to the Church of England portion of the New Cemetery, where Rev. G. F. Pyke (Rector of St. Paul's, Adelong), in the absence of a C. of E. clergyman here, officiated at the grave. The coffin-bearers were Messrs. Steve French jr., Fred French, Arthur French, Rowley Day, Dan French (uncles), and Albert French (cousin). Messrs Fuller and Burt were the undertakers. The deepest sympathy is felt for the grief stricken bereaved, the mother of the deceased lad being an invalid. |
