Note from Ancestry (unable to confirm that this is true. Looks unlikely.)
I read somewhere that she was a grand daughter of Sydney's first harbour master. That would be Robert Watson who must be the father of Sarah Watson, I don't know. It shouldn't be hard to check, eg Sydney Maritime Museum. I believe Watsons Bay is named after him. See http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/watson-robert-2777/text3949 Burrowa News 23 Non 1883 At the Queanbeyan Sessions before Judge McFarland, Rebecca Forrester pleaded guilty to bigamy. The prisoner had married one Robertson while her former husband was alive.. Mr. Gannon, jun., of Goulburo, appeared for the de fence. The prisoner was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, the judge remark ing that her first husband, Forrester, had been guilty of heartless cruelty towards her. Southern argus 23 Oct 1883 MAKING A FALSE DECLARATION. I At the Queanbeyan Police Court on Tuesday last, ' Rebecca Forrester, alias Robertson, alias Gardiner, I appeared to answer an information charging her with | having. on the 19th May last, wilfully made a false I declaration before the Rev. Robert A. Steel, M.A., on the occasion of her marriage with one John Ro- bertson. Senior-sergeant Cornell deposed : I know the ac- cused before the court; she goes at present under the name of Rebecca Robertson ; I produce an original certificate of the marriage of the accused with John Robertson; the certificate is signed by Robert A. Steel, M.A., the officiating minister; on the docu- ment produced the name of the accused appears as Rebecca Watson, spinster. |
